Terrell

This person came to me because she had a problem with her finger swelling in pain. She is an artist and noticed that this had happened previously when she was getting ready to take her art career and go out in the public eye, exactly what was happening now.

After discussing this we discovered that because of her past history of family violence, she never feels safe ‘standing out’. She wants to be inviswible in public but doesn’t know how. She feels you are only safe from people who will hurt you if you are invisible. She has learned, recently, from an abandoned stray cat that came to live with her, and has improved over a few years, that with a safe home, which she has now with her husband, she can feel safe living with someone else. In the past, she only felt safe living alone.

The Painting: I envisioned her safe in her house with her husband and cat. Her house sits on top of the world, visible to everyone, yet she is safe. A tidal wave approaches her, but it will not harm her because it is small and insignificant, barely big enough to “water her lawn,” as she commented. Her house is gingerbread-like and the painting has a charming, fairytale feeling. She said it was the perfect antic dote to her fears.

Comments: “I love the painting! I have it in my bedroom. I find it comforting on a level I cannot describe or explain.”
